Samsung TV custom USB jacks (#R18)
here’s a random thought: If you already know you’ve fucked up a device design, and you know it so well that your own folks have decided to create a custom solution because it’s obvious the end-user will tear apart a standard part in no time…then maybe (just maybe!)
- don’t make that special part and fix your impractical design? Reaching inconveniently placed ports with minimal clearance for cables and devices is a terrible user experience in the first place?
- make that part available to everyone (you’re a big company, you can handle that!) and don’t keep it to yourself? You know, people will still mash those connectors and need a replacement – and very few will buy a new TV because of a defective port, let alone a new Samsung TV because they enjoyed the oddly placed ports of their old one?
That’d be great.
Someone who fixed a TV with the depicted USB port that got obliterated due to the idiotic placement of the port.
Someone who had no spares due to terrible availability (and therefore also pricing) of your custom parts.
Someone who soldered in a regular USB port plus some hot snot around it to give it a slight chance of survival against lever action of each and every USB drive inserted into that port.
Someone who recommended literally ANY OTHER brand for a replacement device in case this damage happens again.
By the way – part numbers: 719-UD-0005 / 3722003225.
And here’s something for the crawlers to feed on – the first one is even a BD player (how badly can one fuck up!?) that uses this custom “I know the space is too tight to fit USB drives but we’ll do it anyway” design, the others show a track record of doing just that since they came out with 19″ compact TVs, right up to 65″ devices which is what I fixed…
(List might be incomplete or incorrect, haven’t checked each and every series because Samsung also does not offer repair manuals and instead recommends a new device. Thank you for littering the planet.)
