Panasonic TX-55AXW634 backlight “fix” lifespan data (WHL #84F1)

Someone’s busy, so here’s a lame, lazy follow-up post to the Panasonic backlight “fix” from WHL #84:

It died. Again. Another string of LED backlight bit the dust just four months after the first one. Guess they’re all the same type, age and power-on hours at the same load, so why wouldn’t they fail left, right and center once the first LED has reached its lifespan?

Well, I had fun disabling another string on the Rohm BD9479FV backlight driver. Exactly the same procedure as shown before, and conveniently, someone already routed AGND for the PWM pin to connect to . […]

Panasonic TX-55AXW634 backlight (short-term) fix (WHL #84)

TVs are apparently still a thing, and so are defective ones. Here’s what I did to a 55″ Panasonic TX-55AXW634 with the red blinking light of death – likely also applicable to similar units of the “LA58 chassis” generation, e.g. the TX-48AX630B 48″ unit or the even smaller 40″ TX-40AX630E. While this fix isn’t perfect nor permanent (I heard it lasted for four months, when presumably another row of LEDs died), it’s good enough to keep the TV going for a bit longer, so one can order spare parts or decide/save up for a new unit. Samsung CLX-6200FX series RTC battery replacement (#P41)

Tutorial time! We don’t have a tutorial category yet? Well, it’ll be a project then…

Let’s just skip all the YouTube tutorial BS with two-minute intros on volume 9001 and thanking their sponsors entirely, and get to the point:

You got a Samsung CLX-6200FX series printer (6220 and 6250 – probably also their predecessors 6200, 6210 and 6240) that wants you to set the date and time on every power cycle, and you’re fed up with it? Great, Samsung wasn’t a dick about servicing, so here’s what you need:

* One new CR2023 3V lithium primary cell
* A small Philips or flat head screwdriver
* An ESD strap or a grounded piece of metal nearby
* The damn printer
* Enough space to access the back of the printer (no need to lift it)
* Ten minutes of free time

Same procedure by the way for adding or replacing extended memory, see below for details. […]

3D printed switch repair parts (#P31F1)

Some more details on the Bosch oven repair. These are the replacement parts that I ordered from Sculpteo, which, according to its own website, is the market leader in online ordered printed parts. Sculpteo also happened to be bought by BASF this spring, and they’re mainly printing in France but offer support in German (with offices in Germany, I think). They offer laser cutting as well but charge additional shipping cost for those, which made me skip parts of my order…

The part in question was already featured in WHL #61 (crappy automated model generation) after which I recreated it by hand. […]

Bosch Gourmet 8400 oven mode selector switch repair (Dreefs 4-DPS/260) (#P31)

A long, tedious blog post for today. This has been in the making for about 9 weeks and I’ve been looking for parts for another year or two. Pictures have been taken on multiple occasions in multiple locations, so it’s a hotchpotch that somewhat reflects the process. This is the use case for the 3D model generation of the WHL #61 post.

Our Bosch Gourmet 8400 microwave and baking oven has been there for as long as I can remember. It’s a huge and darn heavy thing for a microwave oven (27l volume!), and rather small for a baking oven with grill (broiler) functionality. […]

Calore Z1362/R1 waterbed heating controller repair (#P30)

An emergency repair from last Friday night, you know, the ones with the deep green WAF that could offset all your wrongdoings of the entire week if there were any…

I’ve been sleeping on a waterbed for 12 years now; it was the first major (read: expensive) thing I bought after I started going to university. Sleeping on a sofa bed doesn’t really work long-term, but that’s what you do as a broke student with no family to step in. Said waterbed sprung a leak earlier this year on one of the corner seams, so the inner mattress part got replaced (plus the worn topper). […]

Revox Evolution front panel repair (#P10F1)

Soo…the Revox thing from #P10 wasn’t done at the time, and when the missing cable arrived from China (“DB9 Male to Female Gold-plated Extension Cable Pure Copper Line RS232 9 Pin Serial Connector Wire COM Core with Double Shield” for a whopping 4.53€), it didn’t really work as expected.

I wondered: Did they do fancy things with the shielding, in order to squeeze out one more connection from this otherwise 9 pin cable? The cable might have different characteristics compared to the metal-to-metal contact of the serial connectors directly sitting on top of each other. […]

Bloody chip brokers…(#R2)

Been a bit lazy in here as I was busy otherwise – visiting family always yields an entire car full of old and new goodies for me. This time, not only another chunk of records and random crap from the attic came into my possession, but also a damaged flatscreen TV. Well, I don’t watch TV at all, I didn’t have the equipment to do so nor the urge, but as already posted, I am forced to pay bloody GEZ TV fees for not watching one of the dozens of German propaganda stations. Now, the TV was broken (why else would people donate stuff), just like a lot of other electronics from my brother’s apartment. […]

Palladium LA-1000 pre-amp and Revox Evolution stereo system (#P2)

Well, this weekend I’ve been busy replacing dead and leaked caps from something not too Wan-Hung-Lo-ish…a Palladium LA-1000 pre-amp (“Vorverstärker”) back from the 80’s. These are still sold for absurd amounts of money (just like the Revox described down below), so I decided it’s worth a shot. Details on that thing are scarce, and so I’d like to post the cap list in case someone also needs replacements for their dripping electron containers.
