This is puzzling.

Around two months ago, I bought one of these electric (cordless) air dusters. I do technically own some pressurized air equipment (14l tank, 12V pump and manual pump), but it’s always bulky and inconvenient to use. Since battery technology has advanced so much over the last couple of years…some nifty dude invented the server fan on a 18650. Visiting the dark side of China today – product piracy.

First things first, I actually bought this item twice from two different sellers on AliExpress. One back in September for 1.07€ and now two more for 0.95€ each in early January, just to be able to kill one during inspection. The seller may be the same (I’ve seen that recently from BME280 sensors, review to come), but the shop name is different. It is intended as replacement for the current adjustment knob on my electronic load, as I am an idiot and during build I set the voltage over the pot not to the two end pins, but to one pin and the wiper. Sure, carrying over the perfectly fine USB 3.0 spec into USB 3.1 and calling it “Gen 1” (in contrast to “USB 3.1 Gen 2” that is double the speed) is a huge fuckup on its own. There’s no better way to screw up a customer by allowing manufacturers to call something USB 3.1 compliant (new! shiny!) when it’s just 3.0 with a new badge. […]
