HP / HPE ProCurve 2910al-24G J9145A Switch teardown and shenanigans (WHL #108)

Earlier this year, I got my hands on a bunch of old HP switches, 20+4+x ports in 1U, in basic configuration without like fancy 10G addon cards. These were thrown out when my employer moved, but realistically, they should have been in the trash years ago. PCB date late 2008, component date more like mid-2009, so they were a solid 15 years in 24/7 operation. Good stuff.

So I had a peek. Like I always do :)

Hardware is of course ancient, the main processor is some (dual!) ARM11(56T2S) chip with ARMv6 architecture from like 2002. And while the thing has all the oomph it needs for 24/7 sustained 100% load on all ports with VLAN and filtering and sniffing, it’s doesn’t come lightly from a single ASIC like a modern switch would. 99 LEDs E27 Flame Lamps 9W 85-265V 4 Modes Ampoule LED Flame Effect Light Bulb Flickering Emulation Fire Light Yellow/Blue Flame (WHL #53)

For a quick feasibility check for a work project I somewhat recently (end of September) ordered a pair of E27 “flame” lamps. 4.35€ each including shipping, one of each available color – yellow-ish (very warm white) and blue (being a company color).

Big Clive demonstrated these a while back and I had hoped for a bit more oomph. Hence I bought the 9W version. Which turned out to be 9 China-Watts. Well, not even that, which is disappointing and kicked these out of consideration. Too bad, my colleagues liked the effect quite a bit, but it’s clearly too dim for any ambient lighting in larger spaces. […]

3W High Power E27 Warm White Focus 3 LED Spot Lamp Energy Saving 165-245V (WHL #8)

Slightly aged review item today! :)

Last week, an E27 LED light bulb died. I bought it back in September 2012 for 2.58 GBP on eBay and got a full refund at that time because it was neither “3W” nor “Warm White”, so I decided to use it in a bedside lamp which isn’t in use much at all. Now, 4 years or let’s say 300 hours of operation later, it showed a nasty 50 Hz mains flickering and I decided to replace it with a 3W quality German brand lamp for… 2.59 Euros. LEDs really have entered the mainstream!

Now back to the Wan Hung Lo lamp. […]
