This heap of trash actually came from eBay, which nowadays rarely has the best offers for China-shopping. I bought this back in December 2018 for 22.99€ including shipping, and as far as I can recall, I arrived so quickly that it must have been sent from an European warehouse.

Alright, part two of the DC-DC converter tests that’ll lead to a small project. This time we got a 5V/10A converter from Daygreen, model number B10-1224-05, shipped together with the 12V/10A unit from WHL #44. This item was 2.41€ excluding shipping, as described in that blog post.
It’s a brick style unit as well, a tad smaller, but also has two mounting holes left and right which are flush with the case. Contrary to the more powerful 12V one, this is only a plastic case that was potted, but it has four screw terminals and therefore offers more flexibility when it comes to attaching your own wiring. What do you do when none of your existing power supplies can provide enough power for some decent LED module? Yeah, right, you buy a bigger one!
So I did. I had some 100W/150W DC-DC converters laying around, but most of them cap at around 36V. And with the very nice Toshiba E-Core 92W LED module that wants 40V or more, that’s just not good enough (same goes for the popular 25W/50W/100W LED modules!). So the new one in my collection is this:

Today’s item is one that I needed for my smallish light box. I had some makeshift connections when building it, including one with a fixed 65 W (original!) Lenovo laptop power supply who unfortunately had a loose power plug. When I finally had three illuminated sides up (with the stuff from WHL #7), I knew I needed to step up to 90 W or even 135 W power supplies for full brightness. But this time, I wanted a detachable power plug, especially to not kill the power supplies for normal use, but also for convenience (the box is quite large and the supply is too heavy to attach it somewhere).
