Ubuntu and Firefox update (#E15)

Funny how UI changes in some of the most popular websites on earth can nudge you upgrading stuff. Oh, and how crappy (defective) hardware can finally flip the switch.

I’ve recently heard about the Ubuntu 20.10 release (Groovy Gorilla), which made me remember I’m still on 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver). Since I’m only jumping from LTS to LTS releases as my hardware gets older, I was determined to make the 20.04 (Focal Fossa) jump once I hit 256 days of uptime with my laptop.

I didn’t. Testing some old, almost forgotten, Ultrabay slice battery last week

+++ ThinkPad Battery Status: BAT1 (Ultrabay / Slice / Replaceable)

/sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT1/manufacture_date = 2007-10-10
/sys/devices/platform/smapi/BAT1/first_use_date = 2012-07-20

Theme Font & Size Changer for Thunderbird 64.6 fixes (#E6F4)

Yeah, f*ck me, why am I doing this.

Okay, so after a few requests and complaints about issues with TB 60.2.1 and 63b1, I spent the last hours digging deeper. That’s a mess, and not only on the code side of this addon, but also in terms of Mozilla. Well, who would have thought.

64.6 was just uploaded to the TB repository, could take a week to get that approved. Took care of zoom field and fonts list, also updated some more stuff that got disabled already or will get disabled in the near future.

Zoom. Not as in the Mazda cars, but as in layout.css.devPixelsPerPx. That actually was set to an oncommand on the text box itself, which, after I finally got it to break in 60.2.1, never again worked in previous versions. […]

Mozilla Firefox/Thunderbird “legacy” addons (#E6F3)

News from the friendly crackpots over at Mozilla:

Hello,

You are receiving this email because you are listed as a developer of a legacy add-on on addons.mozilla.org (AMO). Mozilla will stop supporting Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR) 52, the final release that is compatible with legacy add-ons, on September 5, 2018.

As no supported versions of Firefox will be compatible with legacy add-ons after this date, we will start the process of disabling legacy add-on versions on AMO. On September 6, 2018, submissions for new legacy add-on versions will be disabled.

Theme Font & Size Changer for Thunderbird (#E6F2)

Aaaand it’s finally available as a direct download for Thunderbird (and FF / FF ESR up to 56.x) – use the addon page in your TB/FF or have a look here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/theme-font-size-changer-fixed/

That only took 13 DAYS to approve, I’m impressed. Go Mozilla, you guys are awesome! (I kept one of the keywords for that fuckup, tyvm)

Theme Font & Size Changer for Thunderbird (#E6) [update 64.3 #2]

[You’re late to the party. This crap has been fixed and is now available as addon directly from Mozilla. Click here for the addon announcement, or read the comments on this page for a secondary fix (64.4) for TB58+.]

You know what really grinds my gears? MORONS that “maintain” a piece of software.

This guy called Baris Derin has quite a lot of Mozilla (FF/TB) addons out there. Great stuff. I’ve been using the font changer for quite some time, as my Thunderbird looks a bit odd with default settings. So, what’s wrong with it? […]
