Tesla Model S Thermal Controller (#P52F1)

Aaaanother Tesla blog entry, yawn…

This is a follow-up to #P52, the grounding stud issue of the legacy Model S. Technically, as of yesterday, all Model S are legacy cars, Tesla axed both S and X and just sells off remaining inventory. Sad to see it go…

So, with the power issue resolved, this THC_w0105 coolant low warning still showed up basically immediately and never really went away. The coolant reservoir is still filled to spec, so nothing is leaking, but the sensor reading is garbage. I visited the Heilbronn service center, and they confirmed that the sensor upon power cycling just reads garbage, but they didn’t have one in stock. […]

Tesla Model S Grounding Stud (#P52)

[tiny update in #P52F1]
*IT Crowd emergency services voice* Has this…ever happened to you?

Well, probably not, nobody is driving old Tesla Model S’es. If however you do, and you get a sudden influx of weird and wonderful warnings that include the following, this blog post might help you out.

  • frunk sensor suddenly shouts at you with MCU_u005_FrunkOpen, despite the frunk clearly being closed correctly – starts off with sub-second warnings that can barely be read on the screen, progresses to super-annoying intermittent contact where it beeps at you every second for a new event, up to full failure where the fault can be ignored once via button and then just persists
  • low beams (Xenon) on passenger side are out, including a BC_W006_rightHeadLightFail warning about their malfunction – in advanced stages also the Xenon high beams might be unavailable and the LED daytime running lights may flicker or are off entirely
  • horn isn’t working anymore, silent (ha!)

Pre-Facelift Tesla Model S LED number plate lights real-world testing (WHL #70F1)

We all know who was too busy last week to upload something, and then too lazy to fix that during the entire week…

Well, here’s a very quick but conclusive report about the exchanged number plate lighting on my car. It’s not just brighter by eye or as viewed by the camera, it’s also that much brighter to anything out there swarming around at night that somebody, I do not know their name or preferred pronouns, decided to set up shop just between number plate and lights. […]

Pre-Facelift Tesla Model S LED number plate lights (WHL #70)

It’s time for cheap lights on expensive cars because of the friggen 3G mobile phone network. Yeah, that sounds perfectly alright.

Two weeks ago I ordered the MCU2 upgrade for my 2015 Tesla Model S at the Service Center Frankfurt. Ever since the possibility for that retrofit was announced by St. Elon, I lusted after it, yet of course it only was made available in the alternative Elon Time™ dimension on time and was delayed forever for everyone else, especially for AP1 cars like mine. Some day in between the recall bombshell of the MCU1 dropped and Tesla extended warranty of that part to 100k miles / 160Mm or 8 years max, and some months later the price for MCU1 cars was reduced from 2500€ (inclusive VAT) to 1550€ (same), as those do not need the AP3 computer refresh. Tesla Model S Pre-Facelift OBD port access (#P18)

You know what…I’m done being busy. From now on, I might be busy because I want to travel, but not because there’s mandatory stuff to be done (in time) with banks, insurance companies and getting ahold of my new…old…Tesla Model S

I’ve been hooked on buying a Tesla since pre-unveil of the Model 3, but I never came to like the 3 for what it costs here in Germany. Might be different in the US, will be different in the future when buying used will be a serious option. But for now, it was buying a new M3 vs. a used MS, and the latter clearly offers more bang for the buck for me. […]
