Tesla Model S Thermal Controller (#P52F1)

Aaaanother Tesla blog entry, yawn…

This is a follow-up to #P52, the grounding stud issue of the legacy Model S. Technically, as of yesterday, all Model S are legacy cars, Tesla axed both S and X and just sells off remaining inventory. Sad to see it go…

So, with the power issue resolved, this THC_w0105 coolant low warning still showed up basically immediately and never really went away. The coolant reservoir is still filled to spec, so nothing is leaking, but the sensor reading is garbage. I visited the Heilbronn service center, and they confirmed that the sensor upon power cycling just reads garbage, but they didn’t have one in stock. […]

Tesla × atg (#E28)

Quick change of plans for today: Tesla uploaded a short video to Youtube this morning called TERAFAB.

While it’s not exactly going viral at 200k views within 20 hours, it’s doing reasonably well given Tesla has 2.9 million subscribers as of now. Clearly, there’s room for more.

The interesting part (for me) however is 0:37. Out of all the Tesla and SpaceX products and factory equipment shown, there’s something that is NOT made by Tesla. Not shown for a terribly long time and also unlabelled, but it does stand out:

That is a purchased machine. […]

Tesla Model S Grounding Stud (#P52)

[tiny update in #P52F1]
*IT Crowd emergency services voice* Has this…ever happened to you?

Well, probably not, nobody is driving old Tesla Model S’es. If however you do, and you get a sudden influx of weird and wonderful warnings that include the following, this blog post might help you out.

  • frunk sensor suddenly shouts at you with MCU_u005_FrunkOpen, despite the frunk clearly being closed correctly – starts off with sub-second warnings that can barely be read on the screen, progresses to super-annoying intermittent contact where it beeps at you every second for a new event, up to full failure where the fault can be ignored once via button and then just persists
  • low beams (Xenon) on passenger side are out, including a BC_W006_rightHeadLightFail warning about their malfunction – in advanced stages also the Xenon high beams might be unavailable and the LED daytime running lights may flicker or are off entirely
  • horn isn’t working anymore, silent (ha!)

A little trip to Spain, for an “X” (#E27)

Unsurprising to everyone, my travel preparations were actually preparations for a road trip. And while there is no deeper meaning to the main target destination itself, it took me quite a while to get there (not using a straight line) and to get back afterwards (even more not using a straight line). And that’s not a good thing to announce to the world when the home address is just one click away ;)

Well, main objective was to visit the Tesla Supercharger at Xinzo de Limia, Spain, since that is (currently) the only supercharger in the world outside of China that starts with an “X”. […]

Europcar and the Mercedes-Benz account (#E26)

At the very beginning of this year, I had to rent a car for a week (*expensive cough*). So after a bit of consideration of pricing, locations, availability and rental models/conditions, I went with Europcar.

Not complaints here, worked out wonderfully. I opted for a “CCAE” vehicle, which in Europcar speak is a Cupra Born, VW ID3, Citroen DS3 or similar – a small-ish electric car that is suitable for medium distances of like 150 to 250km, so no luxury cruiser, but also not a city vehicle. A former colleague had a Born but I never rode with him, and the Europcar station in question had one listed. […]

Full Tesla Beach Buggy Racing video collection (#P47)

Look, I couldn’t be arsed to post something last week. Or the week before. So here it goes:

I’ve been making stupid videos on Youtube / for Youtube. 25+ to be precise, since I now have a full collection of ALL the tracks that can be played on every MCU2(+) Tesla there is (which, notably, excludes Elons space roadster orbiting us, since that doesn’t have a MCU nor a GPS fix to properly log into the game).
Back when being the first to ever run all 25 different tracks by visiting 25 specific superchargers around the country, I had to assume. […]

Car racing in stationary cars (#E25)

Well, it’s been a bit quiet here lately, as I went from very time-consuming car enjoyment at the very end of 2024 to very time-consuming car troubles at the very beginning of 2025. And while I can only share that the latter is FUCKING EXPENSIVE, I have a little more stuff on hand for the former. Since the battle for track times and fame in Beach Buggy Racing is currently flaring up in the German Tesla forum TFF, I thought taping a couple of runs would add value. So I went ahead and captured some…18 hours of it. To show off the best rounds (as there is very little content on Youtube), and to study things like item effects and the perfect racing lines (there’s none), and of course to compile dumb shit into funny videos. […]

The bk Group supercharger lounge revisited (#R15F1)

Well, told ya I’ll be visiting the strange bk world supercharger lounge again. I actually did a month ago, but here we are.
So, the good news first: It’s actually working now. It did require re-registration, but after a couple of minutes of fiddling on the smartphone, I finally got a barcode that unlocked the doors! Let’s just hope this isn’t required ever again, e.g. due to killing inactive accounts or a system migration…

The outside of those two wooden cubes was already featured in the original post #R15, so let’s start inside. […]

ioBroker adapters and Raspberry Pi hardware pricing (#R14)

A quick service post for this week: RPis are pretty expensive nowadays because of “the chip shortage” (and people cashing in) – and maybe you don’t even need an upgrade when just running a couple of ioBroker things on your 1GB unit.

Well, I’ve upgraded my 3B+ from stretch to buster to bullseye earlier today, broke a few things (php8.0-mysql…not a database upgrade issue on ioBroker despite (null) values everywhere), changed swap size from 512M to 2G, and finally installed a docker image (why…) of teslamate. […]
