Müller Licht 5.5W/220-240V/50Hz/38mA/470lm/2700K/dimmable/E14 EB1500665 40036 (WHL #12)

Bit unusual item today – a plain E14 LED bulb that is sold in Germany, made by a German company, but I suspect it is made in China. Müller Licht has some stuff actually manufactured in Germany as well, but I don’t think this one was. But as it is not clearly indicated on the bulb and/or on the retail package (as far as I can see from product photos), I cannot say for sure.

Well, this was one of four identical bulbs that I bought for replacing halogen bulbs in my new home. I cost me 6.39€ a piece back then, shipping was free due to buying loads of other stuff and easily surpassing the free shipping limit at one of my favourite shops, voelkner.de. […]

Black 0-9 Digits Single Unit Pushwheel Thumbwheel Switch (WHL #11)

Folks, this is a big one. I will split into two articles to make the item review available now and show the finished project later (once I got a box around it). Maybe even three articles to post DMM comparison data. Today, I will show the unit and the first measuring results.

Back in January ( ) I bought a 10-pack of these dials for 5.33€ including shipping at AliExpress. I saw these in the EEVblog forums and decided to have a go. And now you know the purpose of the assorted SMD resistors in WHL #10 ;)

First things first: Shipping took ages, and quality is very Wan Hung Lo’ish. […]

0805 SMD Resistor,1% 123 valuesX10pcs=1230pcs,Chip Resistor Electronic Components Package, Resistor Samples kit (WHL #10)

10 Posts, and I haven’t overtaken Dave Jones in popularity yet. I’m clearly doing something wrong! Maybe I should change something…what about “let’s not complain”…for today? ;)

Really, I cannot gripe about today’s review item even though it actually is pretty far away from advertised. I have ordered a set of 0805 SMD resistors via AliExpress for the extremely high price of 3.87 Euros including shipping (that was actually back in January 2016 – stuff piles up!).

Sure, entire reels of 0805 resistors cost measly 10 Euros for 5000 pieces (1%), that’s next to nothing per unit. […]

DC Jack Powerbuchse Netzteilbuchse Strombuchse IBM Lenovo ThinkPad SL400 (WHL #9)

Heyho!

Today’s item is one that I needed for my smallish light box. I had some makeshift connections when building it, including one with a fixed 65 W (original!) Lenovo laptop power supply who unfortunately had a loose power plug. When I finally had three illuminated sides up (with the stuff from WHL #7), I knew I needed to step up to 90 W or even 135 W power supplies for full brightness. But this time, I wanted a detachable power plug, especially to not kill the power supplies for normal use, but also for convenience (the box is quite large and the supply is too heavy to attach it somewhere). […]

3W High Power E27 Warm White Focus 3 LED Spot Lamp Energy Saving 165-245V (WHL #8)

Slightly aged review item today! :)

Last week, an E27 LED light bulb died. I bought it back in September 2012 for 2.58 GBP on eBay and got a full refund at that time because it was neither “3W” nor “Warm White”, so I decided to use it in a bedside lamp which isn’t in use much at all. Now, 4 years or let’s say 300 hours of operation later, it showed a nasty 50 Hz mains flickering and I decided to replace it with a 3W quality German brand lamp for… 2.59 Euros. LEDs really have entered the mainstream!

Now back to the Wan Hung Lo lamp. […]

or

5m/roll SMD 5630 DC 12V Not Waterproof LED Strip White / Warm White String Lights Fita Lamps for Home Lighting Cabinet Decorate

Well, you get the idea. It’s LED strips this time, and I chose 5630 size in warm white color. I’ve been ordering quite an amount of these, and in hindsight, I would rather buy A LOT of them instead of getting 1-2 reels at a time. […]

Weißen 128×64 0,96 zoll oled lcd led-display-modul für arduino 0,96″ IIC spi kommunizieren (WHL #6)

…Hi

I know, it’s been a while. Busy working, busy moving, busy buying metric shittons of furniture that’s not easily available in my size (or budget, or space, or all of them) and takes ages for delivery. Although this city is considered large for German terms, it’s not easy to get what you want – you might as well live in a backwater town. Well, actually I moved to such a lovely place and I couldn’t be more satisfied :)

About the promised “organic” next post: Here it is, I’m back. I’ll also throw in the other headline descriptions, as I actually bought another one for me (which I will review now), and two more for a work colleague who already snitched my first unit. […]

On the Move… (editorial note #E1)

Hey, just some announcements and technical details for people out there that think about WordPress hosting.

I switched hosting providers this weekend, moving away from do.de (Domain-Offensive) to Uberspace. I’d still recommend DO for registering domains and very basic web hosting, yet their proclaimed WordPress (and other CMS) support doesn’t really cut the mustard. They do have proper support with people that are helpful and skilled, but they won’t change a crucial detail – so I’ve got to leave. A friend of mine introduced me to Uberspace, which looks very promising. […]

DVI Male to HDMI Female adapter Gold-Plated NEW M F Converter For HDTV LCD IE (WHL #5)

I gotta sneak something in that I need to rant about a little. It’s a good old passive signal adapter – for getting HDMI video signals into a DVI monitor. What could the Wan Hung Lo engineering department or qualitty management possible f :D ck up?

Well, as it turns out, making a nonworking (nonfitting) unit isn’t trivial. You have to use deep knowledge about both signal protocols to make it …not work.

First, let’s talk about HDMI. To make all this copy protection (HDCP) crap work, you better use digital signals only, that is, not only the video is digital, but also the audio channel. […]

New at Wan Hung Lo: Open Source Hardware! Presenting the USB A-to-Micro bridge (WHL #4) (updated)

Oh well, I already announced it’s gonna be fake. But the other way round ;)

A while back, I saw the USB A-to-Micro bridge from youritronics. I already own one of these medium quality USB power meters that display voltage and current in an alternating fashion every few seconds. But complete control over power, data lines and also shielding is new. So I wanted one. In the short comment section however, someone noted that the signal routing probably isn’t the best. I had some spare time after Christmas this year, and I also wanted to test the Platinensammler (PCB aggregator) service from Jakob Kleinen. […]
